How to add product options

Use product options to create selectable choices such as size, color, material, add-ons, preparation preferences, or other variations customers choose before adding an item to the cart.

What are product options?

Product options let one catalog item offer multiple customer-selectable choices without requiring a completely separate product page for every combination.

Options and separate products serve different needs

Use options when choices belong to one product experience. Create separate products when each variation needs its own URL, full description, media gallery, SEO metadata, or independent merchandising.

Add options to a product

Open Products. Sign in to the SigmaCart Admin Dashboard and navigate to the Products section.
Create or edit a product. Open an existing item or start a new product.
Find Product Options. Scroll to the options, variations, or add-ons area provided by your installed SigmaCart version.
Create an option group. Enter a clear customer-facing name such as Size, Color, Material, or Extra Toppings.
Add option values. Add every selectable value, such as Small, Medium, Large, Red, Blue, or Gift Wrap.
Configure each value. Review supported price adjustments, stock, availability, order, and default selection.
Choose required or optional. Require a selection when the product cannot be ordered correctly without it.
Save and test. Open the storefront product page and complete a test add-to-cart and checkout flow.

Price, stock, and required settings

Review the final product price

Confirm whether an option price is added to the base product price or replaces it in your SigmaCart version. Test the product page, cart, tax, discounts, and checkout totals.

Keep the selection experience simple

Too many option groups can make a product difficult to understand. Include only choices that materially affect the item or fulfillment process.

Verify the customer experience

Open the public product page. Confirm that every group and value appears correctly.
Test required validation. Try adding the item without selecting a required option.
Select multiple combinations. Verify displayed price and stock behavior.
Add the item to the cart. Confirm the selected values appear in the cart line item.
Complete checkout. Check totals, taxes, discounts, inventory, and order details.
Review the order dashboard. Confirm staff can see the customer’s selected options clearly.

Product-option troubleshooting

Problem	What to check
Options do not appear	Confirm the option group and values are saved, active, assigned to the product, and supported by the active theme.
Required option can be skipped	Verify the group is marked required and clear relevant frontend or application caches.
Price is incorrect	Review the base price, option adjustment, taxes, discounts, currency precision, and whether the adjustment adds to or replaces the price.
Stock is not updated	Confirm whether stock is tracked at product level or option/variation level in your SigmaCart version.
Selection is missing from the order	Test the cart payload, order line-item details, API response, and any customized checkout or order components.
Mobile layout is difficult to use	Shorten labels, reduce unnecessary choices, and review the active theme’s responsive option controls.
