Can Claude Code build a website?

Claude Code is a coding tool that can read a project, edit files and run development commands. You can use it to implement a website from a brief. The output still needs review, testing and a deployment suitable for its framework.

Prepare your project

Follow the official Claude Code setup instructions and confirm your account access. Work in a dedicated project directory with version control. Supply approved copy, image assets and a clear page list. Keep credentials in environment settings rather than source files or prompts.

Start with a concrete prompt

Build a responsive three-page website for a local bakery: Home, Menu and Contact. Use semantic HTML, accessible navigation, visible focus styles and a single H1 on each page. Use only the copy and image assets I provide. First inspect this directory and propose a plan. Explain how to preview, test and deploy the result before making changes.

Review, build and refine

  1. Read the proposed framework and file changes before starting.
  2. Ask for one complete page first, then reuse shared navigation and styles across the remaining pages.
  3. Run the project using its documented commands and inspect the mobile and desktop layouts.
  4. Ask for focused revisions with specific expected results, such as fixing menu overflow at a narrow viewport.
  5. Run the available build and lint checks. Test links, forms, missing pages, metadata and image loading.

Publish the finished site

Choose hosting that supports the actual output: static files and a server-rendered application have different deployment needs. Set a production domain, canonical URLs, sitemap and HTTPS. Verify the live result after deployment and keep a way to restore the previous release.

Claude Code and WebMins are different workflows

Claude Code works with project files and developer tools. WebMins offers a visual website workspace with templates and API-provider connections. An Anthropic API connection in WebMins is not a Claude Code login or subscription. Do not paste CLI login tokens into API-key settings.

Source and scope

See the official Claude Code documentation at https://code.claude.com/docs/en/overview. This educational workflow is not a claim of an independently executed end-to-end Claude Code benchmark. Claude Code is an Anthropic product; this guide does not imply affiliation.
